{"id":4395,"date":"2021-09-22T15:35:22","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T15:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agile-ed.com\/?p=4395"},"modified":"2025-01-27T22:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T05:23:10","slug":"learning-loss-and-second-chances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agile-ed.com\/resources\/learning-loss-and-second-chances\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Loss and Second Chances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/meredith-brown-biesinger-m-ed-ldt-b2858563\/\">Meredith Biesinger<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When the world shut down in March of 2020, and school districts had to develop a plan for virtual or \u201cat-home\u201d learning within days, it is safe to say that we as educators were traveling down a road that had NEVER been taken before.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 456px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ibb.co\/mJ2HRzC\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ibb.co\/1ZP902f\/Untitled-Project-60.jpg\" alt=\"Learning Loss and Second Chances\" width=\"456\" height=\"256\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Learning Loss and Second Chances<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The phrase \u201clearning loss\u201d has been discussed quite a bit lately, and rightfully so, as it is at the forefront of educator concerns. Many students have not been in a structured or consistent learning environment for over a year. Several schools across the country have reopened, only to shut back down, reopen again, or switch to a hybrid model for the time being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With constant change, loss of instruction is apparent as we continue to blaze new trails within education. Still, there are other noticeable losses, such as loss of routine or consistency and, for some, a loss of motivation or stamina.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How do we learn from the data we have and combat these losses?<\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use brief and straightforward assessments often to identify and address COVID-19 learning gaps.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Personalize education for students to assist in closing those learning gaps<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prioritize students\u2019 social and emotional needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Provide various intervention options for students across the board, K-12.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Provide problem-based learning through STEM initiatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Providing curriculum or resources that are cohesive and consistent in structure and multifunctional in the classroom or at home provides a powerful tool for educators and parents to help their students combat learning loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Educators are resilient, and students are resilient. Yet, within these losses lie great opportunities to model one of the greatest lessons of all time; challenges will come and go in life, but with them also comes the opportunity for strength, growth, and inevitably, success<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">At Agile, we help edtech companies connect with educators.
